Mitt proves his campaign stops DO go better with coke

Mitt Romney held a campaign event Monday evening at a Miami juice shop owned by a convicted cocaine trafficker, according to a report on the CBS News web site.

 Romney appeared at El Palacio de los Jugos, which is owned by Reinaldo Bermudez. Court records show that Bermudez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 1999 and served three years in federal prison.

Stumping for now-elusive Florida votes after his pick of Paul Ryan as his running mate, Willard and Marco Rubio managed to pick the one juice joint in all of Miami belonging to a guy who can't even vote for either due to his felony conviction and Florida law.

And it wasn't just you regular old campaign stop either. The Romney campaign was actually memorializing the visit by filming a political campaign ad at the juice bar. Bermudez was busted for shipping nearly 500 pounds of coke concealed in containers filled with fish that were imported from Trinidad.

The two guys seem to have common ground in their affinity for tiny Caribbean islands: Romney has money hidden in Bermuda to avoid US taxes; Bermudez got busted for shipping cocaine from a nearby south Caribbean island. Guess campaigning is a lot more fun when you can swap stories of solidarity concerning your off-shore activities.

But it's all good, Bermudez notes.

"Here in Miami there are a lot people with money who have had problems with the law."

Willard Romney has spent most of his time campaigning in the US issuing that old childhood taunt of "I'm rubber, you're glue; whatever you say bounces off me and sticks on you."

In conservative circles, that approach works just swimmingly when the target of such attacks is President Barack Obama but, when the target becomes the Republican Right Reverend Ronald Reagan, it's a tactic that takes on a toxicity that draws immediate return fire from a faithful flock.

In a recent attempt to absolve himself of his lack of national security bona fides, Mitt and his Mittwits took a shot at Reagan by invoking an anecdote culled from the memory of Reagan's Secretary of State James Baker. It just didn't work.

Mitt's gaffe-a-thon skips Israel to chafe Poland's neighbor

As Mitt Romney prepares to take his horse and flee London searching for friendlier venues in Israel and Poland, at least one of those countries' allies is already miffed about his foreign policy agenda.

According to the uber-conservative Wall Street Journal, Slovak Foreign Minister isn't waiting for the Conservative Cavalcade of Clowns to descend on his country before taking Romney to task for his words to the Veterans of Foreign Wars this past Tuesday.

Now running for "Most Likely to be Dumped at the Convention," the alleged Republican nominee attacked President Obama's administration for "abandoning Poland and the Czech Republic by altering plans for an American missile defense system in Europe," the WSJ reports.

But, according to Miroslav Lajcak, in Washington this week for meetings with U.S. officials, Europe has embraced the Obama approach to missile defense and Romney was dredging up settled debates.

“People have moved on,” said Lajcak the minister of foreign affairs and deputy prime minister, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “We are in a different situation now. We are discussing a different project. I see no reason to revisit discussions from three years back.”
